Patrick Carney (born April 15 1980) is a multi-instrumentalist best known as the drummer for the Black Keys, a blues/rock band originating from Akron, Ohio. His uncle is Ralph Carney, sax player for Tom Waits. Patrick's father, Jim, is a reporter for the Akron Beacon Journal. Carney has produced records for Beaten Awake, Houseguest, and The Black Keys. His style in some songs is similar to John Bonham's with "Aeroplane Blues" being one example. Both Carney and Dan Auerbach, the lead singer and guitarist for The Black Keys, record with Nonesuch Records. The group's first album The Big Come Up and second album, Thickfreakness, were recorded in Carney's old basement in Akron on a street called Richmond Place.
