Peney-le-Jorat is a former municipality in the district of Gros-de-Vaud in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It is in the south-west of Switzerland, close to both France and Italy. The villages of Villars-Tiercelin, Montaubion-Chardonney, Sottens, Villars-Mendraz and Peney-le-Jorat merged on 1 July 2011 into the new municipality of Jorat-Menthue. Peney-le-Jorat has an area, as of 2009[update], of 4.5 square kilometers (1.7 sq mi). Of this area, 2.45 km2 (0.95 sq mi) or 54.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1.77 km2 (0.68 sq mi) or 39.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.26 km2 (0.10 sq mi) or 5.8% is settled (buildings or roads).
