Penthouse Paupers were a Melbourne Indy Rock band from the mid to late 80's, with a classic Aussie pub, rhythmic rock sound characteristic of the era. Their eponymous debut, released on the Grown Up Wrong (Dog Meat Records) label, reached no9 on the Indy charts in 1987. This was followed up with the single, "Same Place Twice" in 1988 which reached no11 on the Indy charts.The Paupers were part of a scene which include the Huxton Creepers, Painters and Dockers, the Cracked Jaffers, the Puritans and others who helped contribute to the Melbourne sound which bands like Jet (band) reflect two decades later.
