The Peoria County Board Election of 2010 determined, along with 7 members not up for re-election, the membership of the Peoria County Board. The Democratic Party retained its majority, despite losing the popular vote. Most seats were not contested. Thomas O'Neill was re-elected as chairman by a vote of 11-7, his major opponent was Carol A Trumpe. Trumpe voted for O'Neill and was afterward elected Vice-Chairman. The former Vice-Chairman, William Prather did not seek re-election. The Board is Partisan, but does not have designated party leaders. The Democratic Party is one of two major contemporary political parties in the United States, along with the Republican Party. The party's socially liberal and progressive platform is largely considered center-left in the U.S. political spectrum. The party has the lengthiest record of continuous operation in the United States, and is one of the oldest political parties in the world. Barack Obama is the 15th Democrat to hold the office of President of the United States.
