PCOD is characterised by an excess production of androgen, which causes a hormonal imbalance. Anovulation prevents the corpus luteum from forming, which lowers progesterone levels as well. This then results in secondary amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea, which is described as having fewer than 8 cycles per year. Insulin resistance is present in (50 - 70%) of PCOD cases. Those who are obese are more likely to experience it. It causes higher glucose levels, which results in an inflammatory reaction and a rise in CRP. An oral glucose tolerance test will show abnormal results for the patient.Polycystic ovarian disease is commonly seen in woman due to lack of exercise and poor lifestyle, diet, obesity, stress, hormonal imbalance, which causes various problems in their body. If left untreated, can lead to further health complications. So, it is important to explore the perception and assess the level of knowledge and awareness about PCOD and it's signs and symptoms among females about the disease.
