Perception of Information

The aim of this study is to describe the possibilities of creating and testing calm computing prototypes to aid location based information through the use of visual cues. The location selected for this study is the Integrated Rapid Transport (IRT) station at the Civic Centre bus station (CCBS), Cape Town, South Africa. The research will specifically focus on the scheduling and arrival times of the IRTs buses as identified to be the most important information. Ambient display system (ADS) will be introduced as a possible solution to enrich location specific information at the IRT bus station. User evaluation will be presented in the form of in-situ quasi-experiments.

Daryn Molenaar is a lecturer in the Faculty of Informatics and Design at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in South Africa. He has a National Diploma in Three Dimensional Design, Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design and a Master's Degree in Design.
