The purpose of the study was to assess the perception of students & teachers on academic performance in selected Molo Secondary schools in Kenya. Specific objectives of the study were; to determine the relationship between poverty & performance of students in national examinations, the relationship between School facilities & performance of students in national examinations, the relationship between the quality of teachers & performance of students in national examinations, the relationship between indiscipline & performance of students in national examinations & the relationship between Home environment & performance of students in national examinations. Methods of data collection were questionnaires & interviews. The study revealed that school facilities are important for students to perform well in examinations & that unqualified teachers do not teach well leading to poor performance in national examinations. The study revealed that children who are indisciplined perform poorly in national examinations and that parents who encourage their children contribute positively to children s performance.

James Mungai Mbiu is the Principal Elburgon Secondary in Nakuru County. In his 15 years as Principal of the school,he has been instrumental in its transformation to the leading Sub County school in Kenya. He holds an M.Ed Degree in Educational Administration & Management & a B.Ed Degree. He enjoys teaching and mentoring & is an Associate Pastor.
