Performance Appraisal of Indian Steel Industry

Steel is a crucial metal for the development of any modern economy and is considered to be the backbone of human civilization. India is the largest producer of direct reduced iron (DRI) and third largest producer of the crude steel as well as consumer of finished steel in the world. Indian Steel industry has grown manifolds witnessing more than 100 mt production of finished steel.This book is an attempt to probe the growth of Indian steel industry. It analyses the profitability, liquidity and solvency position of selected steel companies. Some diagrams, graphs and charts have been used to make presentation understandable. Additionally, procedure of calculation and analysis of EVA and MVA has been conversed in detail. The relationship between MVA, EVA and traditional measures of performance appraisal has also been assessed using Panel Data Analysis Technique. A brief analysis of social performance too is included which gives details about social activities performed by steel companies for the betterment of the society. Suggestions for enhancing liquidity, profitability and solvency position of the companies, for shareholder value creation are also mentioned.
