Performance Ratings of SLA/PIN-HBT and APD/HBT Optical Receivers

This book presents an analyses of the SLA/PIN-HBT and APD/HBT based optical receivers. The improvement in the sensitivity by using SLA has been demonstrated at high bit rates. Various parameters like variation of bit rates on sensitivity of both receivers, the relationship between BER and sensitivity, the relationship with bit rates and BER, the effect of increase of wavelength on sensitivity, the relationship between BER and received power, are compared. Moreover, the effect of increment in bit rates on various noise components of SLA and the effect of increment in gain of SLA on sensitivity of SLA/PIN-HBT receiver have been simulated. This work is useful to researchers who are working in the design of advanced optical receivers.
