PERI-IMPLANTITIS

The inflammatory lesions that develop in the tissues around implants are collectively recognized as peri-implant diseases. Peri-implant diseases may affect the peri-implant mucosa or also involve the supporting bone . There are a number of factors which may contribute to the development and progression of peri-implantitis. These include patient factors such as periodontally susceptible individuals, smokers, diabetics, alcohol consumption, oral hygiene, presence of keratinized mucosa, genetic traits and implant related factor.
