Pharmaceutical dosage forms and formulation science is the study of how drugs are physically prepared and delivered to patients for therapeutic effect. Dosage forms are the physical presentations of drugs-such as tablets, capsules, liquids, creams, and injections-designed to ensure safe, effective, and convenient administration. Formulation science involves combining active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) with excipients to optimize drug stability, bioavailability, and patient compliance, while also considering factors like route of administration, release profile, and patient needs. This field is essential for transforming raw drug substances into usable medicines, protecting the drug from degradation, masking unpleasant tastes, and enabling controlled or targeted delivery. The choice of dosage form depends on the drug's properties, the desired therapeutic effect, and the patient's condition, ensuring that the medication reaches its site of action efficiently and safely.
