Photochromes Integrating the Concept of Sustainable Development

The development of the chemical industries took place at the end of the 19th century and during the second industrial revolution, but the advent of oil will allow an unprecedented growth of this industrial sector. Whether in agriculture, food, health, textiles, the energy sector ... chemistry is present, since the mid-twentieth century, at all levels of everyday life. However, today we are facing a constant increase in temperatures on Earth, and unprecedented pollution of the soil, air and oceans. Thus, the urgency to find alternatives to the operating conditions in the synthetic chemistry sector pushed us to imagine how photochromic molecules could fit perfectly into the concept of Sustainable Development.

Estelle Banaszak-Léonard nació en Lorena, donde realizó todos sus estudios, hasta su doctorado. Tras un primer postdoctorado en la Universidad de Birmingham (Reino Unido) y un segundo en la Universidad de Maine (Le Mans), donde descubrió los azobencenos, desde 2008 trabaja como profesora-investigadora en el Laboratorio TIMR UTC / ESCOM.
