Physiological characterisation of native species of the Brazilian Cerrado
Details
The Cerrado is the second largest Brazilian biome, with a great biodiversity of fauna and flora. Knowledge of the physiology of fruits still unknown to the population, coming from biomes previously considered poor, is extremely important, as it is through these studies that new nutritional sources are discovered and introduced into society. In addition to their nutritional contribution, the study of these species enables the preservation of their natural habitat, which is often replaced by pastures for cattle or large monocultures such as soybeans, sugar cane and coffee. Only what is known can be preserved. This work brings to light two of the many fruits found in the Cerrado Biome that have high levels of nutrients essential for human consumption, evaluating their evolution from anthesis (flower opening) to the optimal point of harvest.
