Phytochemical Investigation on Leaf Extract of Croton Macrostachys
Details
Croton Macrostachys belongs to the Genus Croton and the family Euphorbiaecae. The plant is used as traditional medicine for treatment of malaria based on Ethno botanical description. Only the dried leaf of croton Macrostachys extracted with ethanol based on traditional healer and the crude extract was active against plasmodium berghei. Fractionation of crude ethanol extract of leaf part of Croton Macrostachys resulted in isolation of different compounds, but only structure of compound CMEA-16 and partial structure of compound CMEO-6 were elucidated by using spectroscopic methods (IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR, UV, DEPT and 2D NMR), while the structure of others could not be determined because of their small amount.
