Pirarucu (Arapaima gigas) in the Northeast Region of Brazil

National fish farming is undergoing rapid development, particularly in the Northeast Region. Currently, there is a demand for new techniques for farming native species. The book aims to present the procedures for introducing pirarucu in the Northeast Region of Brazil, providing information to producers and researchers on the management and identification of stocks using molecular biology techniques to generate higher quality fry and, consequently, increase farmed fish production.

Mauro Vinicius Dutra Girão is a biologist and Eliana Matos Ribeiro is a fisheries engineer. Both are professors and hold master's degrees in fisheries engineering, specializing in fishery resources. They work in the areas of surveillance, production, management, fish technology and processing, ecology, cellular and molecular biology, and zoology.
