PLANNED RESETTLEMENT IN POST DERG ETHIOPIA

In this study, attempt was made to assess the performance and status of the planned resettlement program in Oromia region with particular emphasis on Tulema scheme, Hawa Welel Woreda, West Wellega Zone.The assessment was from different perspectives.It explores the nature of decision that initiated the resettlers to leave their home areas or to participate in the resettlement program that is, whether they participated in the program voluntarily or otherwise. Besides, the research assesses the planning and implementation approaches of the resettlement program and also looks at the challenges that the settlers and the host communities are experiencing. Moreover, it considers the impacts of the program on the local environment and also evaluates whether the planned scheme helped people solving their problems particularly those who had been food insecure in their homeland. By assessing the existing situations in the resettlement site under consideration through in- depth investigation, the study may help policy makers as a feedback as well as scholars interested in the subject in understanding what is happening in the new resettlement schemes.
