Details

Small urban centers are considered vital interface between the developing rural system and the developing urban system. However, despite increased recognition of the potential role of the centers in regional and national development, these centers face a number of serious challenges. The challenges impair the ability of the centers to fulfill their potential role in fostering development of the rural areas and stimulating the rural economy. This book brings out the major challenges faced by small urban centers in fulfilling their most important role of transmitting development impulses into the rural hinterlands. It does this by taking a case study of Awasi urban center in Nyando District of Kenya.
