PLATFORM SWITCHING

Platform switching is a concept in dental implantology that involves the use of an abutment with a smaller diameter than the implant fixture itself. In traditional dental implant systems, the diameter of the abutment matches that of the implant fixture. However, with platform switching, the abutment diameter is intentionally reduced compared to the implant fixture diameter. While platform switching shows promise in promoting better long-term outcomes, its clinical significance and exact mechanisms are still the subject of ongoing research and debate in the dental community. As with any dental procedure, the decision to utilize platform switching should be made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account factors such as the patient's oral health, anatomical considerations, and treatment goals.
