Details

This book brings together a new English translation of Plato's Meno, a selection of articles on themes in the dialogue, and an introduction setting it in its historical context, and discussing the key philosophical issues.

Informationen zum Autor Jane M. Day is a Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, and University Lecturer at the University of Oxford. Klappentext "Plato's" Meno "in Focus" brings together in one volume an English translation of the text, a selection of illuminating articles on themes in the dialogue published between 1965 and 1985 and an introduction which sets the "Meno" in its historical context and opens up the key philosophical issues discussed in the various articles. Many of the articles have until now been available only in the most highly specialized libraries. This translation is especially designed to preserve more consistency in its Greek terms than other translations, providing a highly reliable reflection of the details in the original text. Within the articles, Greek words and phrases are often accompanied or replaced in this volume by a translation. A glossary introduces key terms and shows how they are translated. The "Meno" provides an excellent introduction both to Plato and to philosophy in general.
