Water supply and sanitation are among the most basic requirements of life. For the last 150 years people living in the western countries cities have come to take for granted the provision of a clean, safe water. This came to reality with the help of collective political will, urban planning and engineering skills. On the other hand millions of people, struggle daily for clean water. Water supply remain a dream for too many people all over the world. So much has been achieved, but much has been lost. Water supply and sanitation are rarely seen as political "winners" everywhere. Too much efforts and money are expended for very limited solutions; much has been learned but much has been forgotten. The present handbook is about basic engineering common sense. It is about understanding the real nature of the supply and management of the water in a building. Some years ago the United Nations declared sanitation and water as human rights, but it seems astonishing that they needed to do so at all. Surely the clean water is a universal right. The aim of this book is to give tools for design and managing one of the most important source of human life: water.
