High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Po Leung Kuk Tsing Yi Secondary School was a skill opportunity secondary school on the Tsing Yi Island in the New Territories of Hong Kong. It was the skill opportunity school founded by Po Leung Kuk in 1998. At its opening ceremony, Anson Chan, the then-Acting Chief Executive of Hong Kong, gave an opening speech on 5th March, 1999. The school was closed in 2004 when the Hong Kong Government decided to close all skill opportunity schools and the building was transferred to Tung Wah Group of Hospitals for a new primary school, TWGHs Chow Yin Sum Primary School, in 2005. The Po Leung Kuk is a charitable organisation in Hong Kong that provides support for orphaned children, education and other services. In the late 19th century, abduction and trafficking of women and children were serious crimes in Hong Kong. On 8 November 1878, a group of local Chinese presented a petition to the Governor of Hong Kong, John Pope Hennessy to set up Po Leung Kuk to rescue the kidnapped victims. Thus, 8 November is regarded as the founding date of the Kuk.
