Polish vs. American Courtroom Discourse brings together the fields of discourse analysis and socio-legal studies to identify, illustrate and explain the cross-cultural similarities and disparities between the inquisitorial and adversarial procedures of witness examination in criminal trials.
This comparative study of American and Polish courtroom discourse examines verbal interaction during criminal trials, and identifies and explains the cross-cultural similarities . The findings of this interdisciplinary work are of relevance and benefit to people in a variety of fields. Gra?yna Anna Bednarek is Assistant Professor at the Chair of Applied Linguistics, University of Economy in Bydgoszcz, Poland, where she is also Consultant for the quality of education. She is an experienced sworn translator and court interpreter on the list of Ministry of Justice in Poland, and Expert Member of the Polish Society of Sworn and Specialized Translators TEPIS in Warsaw.
