Political Change in Ethnically Diverse Societies

The project focuses on inter-ethnic relations in democratizing countries. The author tries to explain how and why in countries where institutional changes take place over a relatively short period of time and simultaneously with the expansion of political participation, each ethnic group s concern about their future in the new political system creates security dilemmas that lead to higher levels of violence among groups that live in the country.

Kursad Turan completed his undergraduate studies on International Relations at Ankara University. He received his Ph.D. from Florida State University in 2005. His research focuses primarily on conflict and more specifically on ethnicity, political change, terrorism, and the Middle East. He teaches at Gazi University, Ankara-TURKEY.
