Resuscitation is the process of restoring vital functions that have been temporarily compromised in acute medical, surgical or traumatic situations. Resuscitation units must therefore be capable of caring for this type of patient, who requires prolonged use of suppletive methods such as respiratory assistance, hemodynamic support and renal assistance.Whether admitted directly or by transfer, patients require round-the-clock monitoring by competent, trained medical staff, as well as the use of specific techniques and equipment. Certain procedures are specifically performed in the intensive care unit, with the ultimate aim of restoring homeostasis: tracheal intubation, continuous infusion of certain substances such as catecholamines via a central venous line using a self-propelled syringe, sedation, etc.
