Posavina (Bosnian, Serbian,Croatian and Slovenian Posavina, Serbian Cyrillic ) is a Slavic name for the region of the Sava river basin in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia that is adjacent or near the Sava river itself. Bosanska Posavina is the Bosnian part of the region, with the area of approx. 2650 km2. The Bosnian region is bound by Sava river to the north, Motajica mountain to the west, mountains Ozren and Trebava to the south and Majevica to the east. In the first half of the 18th century, Sava-Danube (Posavina-Podunavlje) section of the Habsburg Military Frontier existed in the area. Posavina segment of the Frontier comprised parts of Slavonia and Syrmia regions. It stretched between Nova Gradi ka and estuary of the Drina river into Sava.
