Post-9/11 Anglophone Arab Fiction
Details
Works of fiction produced by Anglophone Arab writers can establish bridges of trust and offer opportunities of intercultural understanding. It is for the interest of Americans to dispel the normative judgment that is in disfavor of Arab Americans. It is time that the West updates its vision and tries to perceive the East outside the Orientalist paradigm. It is to be noted that the knowledge produced by the Orientalists is not all reliable, and thus gives them no authority to represent the East as they like. The binaries that were set between the two sides 'us' and 'them' have to be turned into a mode of coexistence and mutual respect. It is time to engage in intercultural and prejudice-free intellectual dialogue with no arrogance or sense of superiority.
