A book investigating best practice when using Social Stories and Picture Exchange Communication, when assisting children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the two main developmental areas of their lives; personal challenges and social interaction with their peers. The data was collected through the use of qualitative questionnaires directed at the thoughts and opinions of twenty-two families and parents and carers of children with ASD. The experiences and voices of the parents were collected through qualitative questions.

Rachel Shailer obtained her university degree inEducation and Society in 2011. The main focus of her work is communicationmethods with children with autism. Since then she has been working for achildren's charity within the research department focusing on neurologicalconditions in children. Rachel has particular interest in communication methodsin particular PECs and Social Stories. She hopes to continue working in thisarea and building information available.
