Potentials of Agritourism in East Nepal

More and more tourists who are visiting Nepal are not only interested in the astonishing landscape, but also in the manifold culture and the everyday life of the local population. Since the majority of the population operates in the primary sector, agritourism can be an opportunity in order to meet this trend by generating an additional income for the peasant population at the same time. Beneath the economic advantages, the local ecology, the society and the culture could benefit from a sustainable tourism development. But developing tourism in rural areas is also associated with many risks and challenges. Based on estimations of experts, the collection of agritoristic concepts worldwide and field reports of similar projects a comprehensive insight on the opportunities and risks of agritouristic offers should be given.
