Poverty and Child Malnutrition in Ethiopia

Despite recent achievement in economic progress in Ethiopia, the fruit of development has failed to secure a better nutritional status among all children of the country. About 472,000 Ethiopian children die each year before their fifth birthdays. This tragic fact places Ethiopia sixth among the countries of the world in terms of the absolute number of child deaths. Of these, about 57% of under-five mortality is caused by malnutrition
