Poverty and Development in Rural India

Geography of poverty is an emerging frontier in the recent past. Poverty is a state wherein an individual cannot fulfill his basic minimum requirements for reasonable healthy living in a given social environment. Poverty is a problem of low income related with productivity, whether a nation or a people, and its unequal distribution in both. Rural Development is now viewed as a strategy specifically designed to improve the economic and social life of a specific group of people, viz., rural poor . The present study is concerned with the problem of rural poor, rural economy, poverty structure, education, health, transport, communication and rural development in India. The main objective is to study the implementation of the rural development programmes as well as their implications in the development of the rural poor.
