The present method of predicting resistance and powering for fishing vessel such as the trawler or purse seiner lend itself to various sources of errors and do not provide an accurate solution to the problem. Model-ship correlation study plays an important role in the accuracy of ship powering prediction from model testing. The outcome of the result from the model testing can be utilized in order to determine the accuracy of the various methods employed for predicting resistance and powering for trawler/purse seiner. Non-dimensional relationships, such as Froude number and resistance-displacement ratio, are used for the model-ship correlation.

Principal Specialist Mazlan Muslim is presently lecturing at UniKL MIMET in Lumut, Perak, Malaysia. He had more than 34 years of experience in maritime engineering, naval architecture and offshore structures. He obtained his Master of Engineering (M Eng) at UTM, Malaysia and BSc in Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding at UK and obtained his MRINA.
