Practical English Phonetics

The discipline "Practical phonetics of the English language" belongs to the basic disciplines of the professional block "Integrated skills" in the system of general linguistics training of specialists of the English language. The necessary conditions for mastering the discipline are the knowledge gained in the initial years of study about the physiological and acoustic aspects of sound production and perception of speech sounds, the system of phonemes and intonation of modern English.This book aims to further development of students' skills in using units of the phonetic system in the process of oral communication. The specified competence belongs to the category of general professional competencies, namely: fluency in the main studied language in its literary form, basic methods and techniques of various types of oral and written communication in this language; possession of a system of linguistic knowledge, including knowledge of the basic phonetics, lexical, grammatical, word-formation phenomena and regularities of the functioning of the language being studied, its functional varieties.
