Preparation and Characterization of Metal Matrix Composites

Composite materials consist of two or more materials which are distinct in physical and chemical properties. The major constituent is matrix and reinforcements have been added to improve the mechanical properties of composites. Matrix is continuous phase in composites which transfer loads to the reinforcements during the application of load. Reinforcements in the form of particles, fibers, whiskers have been added in matrix which significantly improves the mechanical properties and wear resistance. Hence metal matrix composites have been widely used in automotive, aerospace, marine and defense applications.
