Preservation and Conservation of the Pedra da Igreja Archaeological Site

The Gasparino Dam project was all carried out and implemented in the town of Coronel João Sá - Bahia. As part of the conditions for the project's Operating License, IPHAN sent a letter, which is a Term of Reference indicating the need for conservation and preservation of the Pedra da Igreja site. Following the legislation and normative instructions, Law 3924/61, IPHAN Ordinance 230/02 and SPHAN Ordinance 07/88. The Municipality of Coronel João Sá proposes following the parameters requested by IPHAN. The municipality is known as the "City of Stone" region, thanks to its numerous rock formations known to the population as "Pedreiras", these same rock formations are used for the extraction of stone derivatives. As such, its relief characterization is very conducive to the presence of cave archaeological sites (ABREU, 2018). Heritage and preservation are interconnected. "When we think of cultural heritage, we must bear in mind that its value is given by what it represents for collective memory and for individual memory.
