Pressure Ulcers in the Intensive Care Unit

The number of patients who acquire pressure ulcers during their time in hospital has aroused the concern of health professionals, researchers and authorities on the subject, as it is a problem that can often be avoided and involves high costs for health institutions, as well as causing physical and psychological suffering for patients and their families. This book analyses the incidence, prevalence and factors associated with pressure ulcers in intensive care unit patients. It also provides a detailed theoretical basis on the subject, covering epidemiology, anatomy and physiology of the wound, forms of treatment, preventive measures most commonly used in institutions, guidelines that should be followed, subsidising the professionals involved in the management of these problems in order to obtain better results for their clients. This book is suitable for interdisciplinary teams and especially for nurses, who are directly involved in caring for these injuries.
