Pretreatment Inflammation Indices in Carcinoma of the Oral Cavity

Inflammation plays a crucial role in cancer development. Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), systemic immunoinflammation index (SII) and Albumin are indices of inflammation. Objective to investigate the association of these with overall survival (OS) in patients with advanced stages of oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma. Methods, in which a total of 108 patients were included. NLR, PLR, SII and Total Albumin were calculated. The cut-off value was determined using "bhm" in R 3.5.0. The Kaplan-Meier method was used for the association of the indices with OS. SPSS 25 and Xtile with p<0.05 were used. Results according to Kaplan-Meier analyses revealed that elevated NLR, PLR, IBS and Albumin were significantly correlated with lower OS. Patients with low inflammation indices, had a longer survival advantage than those in the group with high preoperative values. Conclusion. Pretreatment NLRs, PLRs, IBS and Albumin are promising biomarkers associated with survival in patients with advanced stage ESCC.
