Prevalence of overweight and obesity in children

The incidence of overweight and obesity is increasing rapidly, particularly among children, and has become a major public health problem worldwide. The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity among children attending public and private schools in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, and to identify the factors favouring weight gain, in order to suggest the best attitude for parents to adopt in order to avoid this very disabling disease.
