Primary Management in Maxillofacial Trauma
Details
Maxillofacial injuries are frequent cause of presentations in an emergency department. Varying from simple, common nasal fractures to gross communition of the face, injuries of this highly vascular zone are complicated by the presence of upper airway and proximity with the cranial and cervical structures that may be concomitantly involved. Initial assessment and management can therefore be very challenging, as all these variables need to be taken into account. Maxillofacial trauma is difficult to manage following high energy trauma when multiple injuries are more likely to have occurred. The patient with maxillofacial trauma has been a matter of discussion for the maxillofacial surgeons because airway management in these patients can be complicated by the severe facial injuries. Thus, the main aim of the book is the management of the facial trauma patient and to restore their function and aesthetics while minimizing adverse events.
