The primary purpose of this study was to examine therelationship between elementary school principals'leadership strategies and teachers' work motivationand job satisfaction levels in the Black Belt regionof Alabama.The participants for this case study researchincluded teachers from a stratified random sample of8 elementary schools containing grades 3-6 and theprincipals of those schools in the Black Beltregion. The participating schools were alsoselected based on their current Adequate YearlyProgress (AYP) status and the gender of theirprincipal.The study focused primarily on populations (eachschool), rather than samples. Descriptivestatistics were used to determine the leadershipstyles of principals and motivation levels ofteachers. Pearson Product Moment CorrelationCoefficient was used to determine whether, and towhat degree, principals' leadership styles andteacher motivation and job satisfaction levelsrelated. Qualitative thematic analysis was utilizedto address the rewards and advancement opportunitiesprovided to teachers and the influential factorsthat principals perceive may impact teachermotivation.

Dr. Webb is a graduate of Alabama State University, former Classroom Teacher, Media Specialist, Asst. Principal, & Education Specialist. She currently serves as a Turnaround Specialist for Montgomery Public Schools. She is also a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Cambridge Who's Who Among Executive & Professional Women, & Alpha Kappa Alpha.

The study focused primarily on populations (each school), rather than samples. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the leadership styles of principals and motivation levels of teachers. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to determine whether, and to what degree, principals' leadership styles and teacher motivation and job satisfaction levels related. Qualitative thematic analysis was utilized to address the rewards and advancement opportunities provided to teachers and the influential factors that principals perceive may impact teacher motivation.
