Periodontitis is denoted by the destruction of connective tissue, loss of periodontal attachment and resorption of alveolar bone. The tissue destruction in periodontal disease appears as a result of the interaction between the pathogenic microflora and the host's immune and inflammatory responses. The immune system is activated in order to protect against local microbial attack and their damaging products from spreading or invading the gingival tissues
