Procedural, Conceptual and Problem Solving Competencies in Algebra

Mathematical competencies are herein distinctively regarded as procedural knowledge, conceptual understanding, and problem solving skills whereas these are chronologically listed in accordance to level of difficulty and understanding of the learner. Knowing how to apply the rudimentary operations of Algebra is a skill which is hereby categorized as Procedural knowledge competency. Digging on the deeper understanding of an Algebraic principle, like comprehension of the laws of equation, is now considered as Conceptual understanding skill; and to apply an Algebraic principle in a real life situation is what we label here as Problem solving skill of the student.
