Process Improvement in Power Press and Injection Moulding

Power press is used for fabricating materials. The operations, performed by this machine include bending, shearing, blanking, punching and cutting operations. In the production line, lots of operations are done in the power press. As heavy tools are used in the power press, the employees who are operating the machine is more prone to injuries. In order to reduce the risk involved, we have fabricated a special attachment, which will ensure the safety of the employees. The company operates Injection molding machines for manufacturing plastic products. In the injection molding machine, the operating time is divided into six phases, which are opening, closing, holding, cooling, injection and ejection phase. Some of the machines, operated by the company, produce relatively small products which require less than five seconds. But the ejection time for all the machines regardless of small or big, is programmed as ten seconds which leads to increased cycle time which in turn, results in reduced production rate. Additionally, in our project, we have recommended the company to reprogram the ejection time to be five seconds for all small machines.
