Castor is an important non-edible oilseed crop of arid and semi-arid regions of the world. Major castor growing states in India are Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Orissa. Gujarat is pioneer in the development and release of castor hybrids. Banaskatha district ranks first in the area, production and productivity of castor. The study "Production and marketing mix of hybrid castor seed by GSSC Ltd., Gujarat" was carried out to study the characteristics of castor growers, production strategies, distribution channels, farmers' buying behavior, dealers margin, gap between demand and supply of castor seed and problems faced by farmers as well as dealers of Banaskanta district of Gujarat. To fulfill these objectives, a sample of 225 hybrid castor growing farmers and 25 seed producing farmers of GSSC Ltd. and 25 dealers were selected by convenient sampling techniques. The present study contributes to the body of literature. It builds up newer prepositions in the field of agricultural marketing management and would help the policy makers to understand the key areas to facilitate in reviving and re-conceptualizing the market policies for hybrid castor seed.

Dr. Harpreet Sodhi obtained her BBA from BKMIBA, Ahmedabad, MBA (Agri-Business Management) with two Gold Medals from S.D.Agricultural University and Ph.D. from Ganpat University, Gujarat. She has 6 years teaching, extension and administrative experience. She has published 25 research papers in National and International journals of repute.
