Production Planning and Control (Part I)

Production planning and control is concerned with all the functions necessary for the creation and delivery of goods and services in the business, public, and non profit sectors. It is mainly concerned with optimization of the manufacturing activities in order to achieve desired profit. The emphasis is on developing systematic approaches for identifying and resolving a variety of problems arising in production planning using methods from statistics, economics, operations research, and behavioral sciences. Production planning consists of planning,routing, scheduling and loading of materials, methods, machines, tools and operating times where as production control deals with, dispatching, following-up, coordination, inspection,taking corrective of materials, methods, machines, tools and operating times.Process planning is determining the specific technologies, procedures, systematic methods by which a product is to be manufactured economically and competitively. Product design defines a product s characteristics of purpose, appearance, materials, dimensions, tolerances, and performance standards.

has received his B.Sc degree in Industrial Engineering (IE) on 13 July, 2002 from Mekelle University (MU); his M.Sc in Mechanical Engineering (Industrial Stream) on 10 August, 2006 from Addis Ababa University. He is currently PhD student; working as lecturer and Operations and Quality Management chair head at IE, EiT-M,MU.
