Productivity and Technical Progress in Indian Textile Industry

The rapid industrialization of India in the recent past has been the striking feature of Indian economic development.Textile industry is one of the agro based industry in India.The textile industry is the single largest foreign exchange earner for India.It contributes heavily to gross domestic product (GDP), industrial output,foreign exchange earnings and employment. It also plays an vital role in all walks of life.This book describes the importance of Textile industry in the economy and envisages to analyse the productivity, technical efficiency and technical change in Indian Textile industry during pre and post liberalisation period.The present study attempts to investigate the Impact of Policy Shift on Productivity,Efficiency Change and Technical Progress in Indian Textile Industry: A Malmquist Approach.In view of the importance of Textile industry in the economy,the present study envisages to analyse the productivity, technical efficiency and technical change in Indian Textile industry during the pre and post liberalisation period.This book is bridge between the reputed scholars and the basic requirements needed by researchers and policy makers.

Dr.N.Savitha, working as an Assistant Professor of Economics at VIT University, Vellore, has done her M.Phil and Ph.D at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. She has published 30 papers in journals and book chapters and has presented 35 papers in conferences. She has received awards in 'Econs-meet 2005' and the "Best Young Researcher Award" in 2015.
