Productivity enhancement by using 5S

The purpose of this book is to review the literature on 5S and to present an overview of 5s implementation practices adopted by the manufacturing organizations. It also highlight those opportunities (problems) for 5s implementation. After indentifying the problems, research team tried to solve this problem by using 5s tools to improve productivity of selected furniture manufacturing factory and compare between two scenarios (before implementing 5s and after implementing 5s). The problems of a reputed furniture manufacturing factory are messy tool setting, bad working environment, rework and inefficient process flow. As a result that factory cannot achieve production target properly. Therefore the major objective of this study is to co-ordinate the selected furniture manufacturing factory by identifying unnecessary items and eliminating these items. The working environment was reset by using 5S tools to enhance the process flow. 5S practice is one of the techniques to improve working environment, health and safety at the workplace. Evaluation of 5S practice can be done through implementation of 5S audit at each division in the company.
