PROGNOSIS

Diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and supportive periodontal therapy are the four core elements of periodontal care. While diagnosis and treatment often receive more clinical attention, prognosis is an important part of therapy for any condition. Patients with a disease want to understand their prospects for recovery, however prognosis is a complex task that requires consideration of the multifactorial nature of periodontitis etiopathogenesis, and therefore can be significantly more difficult to provide than a diagnosis. Determination of periodontal prognosis is an integral part of periodontal practice, and it influences treatment planning directly. The etymologic origin of the term ''prognosis'' derives from Latin and literally means ''foreknowledge.'' It is the prospect of recovery as anticipated from the usual course of disease or peculiarities of the case.Therefore, in this book aspects related to whether treatment will be good or questionable have been discussed depending on innumerable factors.
