PROJECTION HARDNESS IN NANO- AND MICRORANGES
Details
The monograph is devoted to the study of the method of projective hardness of materials, with an emphasis on the use of a spherical-conical indenter in the nano- and micro-range. The main methods of hardness measurement (Rockwell, Vickers, Brinell, Martens) and the concepts of projective, surface and bulk hardness are considered. Materials, equipment, and methods for calculating reduced and unreduced projective hardness are described in detail. A large number of indentation diagrams are presented for various steel samples with different hardnesses and microstructures. These diagrams are obtained by indenting standard specimens that are supplied with Brinell hardness taps and are widely available at most machine-building enterprises. The authors recommend that these charts be used by other researchers who are unable to create them themselves. The results of experimental studies are analysed, calculations are performed, and conclusions are drawn regarding the feasibility of using projection hardness methods in modern materials science research.
