Pyrimidine-versatile scaffold with diverse therapeutic potential

Pyrimidines, basically nitrogen containing heterocycles have been considered for the medicinal potential for the last few decades. This heterocycle, which also play vital role as DNA and RNA bases. Literature evidences the importance of this molecule as potent anticancer drugs. However, its toxicity and drug resistance results in a difficult challenge for the medicinal chemist to develop the novel pyrimidines with strong anticancer potential with a least toxicity and drug resistance. Still there is lot of scope on this molecule.
