Qeladze or Qala Diza is a town in the KRG Kurdistan Regional Government region in Iraqi Kurdistan, north of Suleimani, near the Iranian border. The name Qaladze translates as "Castle of Two Rivers" from the Kurdish words Qala, dw and ze, because to the south west of the town there is a small hill between two rivers. The town has about 70,000 inhabitants, and is surrounded by mountains like many parts of Kurdistan. There are hundreds of villages surrounding the town on the mountainous regions. Iraqi Kurdistan or Kurdistan Region (Kurdish: Herêmî Kurdistanî, Arabic: , Iql m Kurdist n) is an autonomous Region of Iraq. It borders Iran to the east, Turkey to the north, Syria to the west and the rest of Iraq to the south. Its capital is the city of Arbil, known in Kurdish as Hewlêr. The Region is officially governed by the Kurdistan Regional Government. The establishment of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq dates back to the March 1970 autonomy agreement between the Kurdish opposition and the Iraqi government after years of heavy fighting.
